CALUM LEWIS TRIBUTE TOUR 9 – 11 JULY 2008

The evening of Thursday 19 June 2008 saw a very successful Diced Cap R.A.Y.S. Awards Dinner held at the Marriott Hotel, Dyce The dinner recognised achievement of youth in schools and celebrated the culmination of the Diced Cap Delta Challenge 2007/8 a unique project causing a focus on social enterprise by ‘Can Do’ senior students in academies across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The students’  good citizenship , enthusiasm and commitment had raised in excess of £40,000 for their chosen charities.

In the presence of Scotland’s First Minister Rt Hon Alex Salmond MP MSP and guests from business, education and communities from across the North East the Chief Constable of Grampian Police Mr Colin McKerracher who is also President of Diced Cap in closing the event presented the compere Gordon Townson  GTEYE2EYE , Chairman of Diced Cap with a Police baton adorned with 8 silver name plates. The baton kindly sponsored by Finnies the Jeweller of Aberdeen had the first plate engraved

Grampian Police Diced Cap Charitable Trust 1991’

Chief Constable McKerracher wished Gordon Townson luck in taking this baton to  Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary to hopefully ignite the creation of a similar charity on the Diced Cap template and over the coming years extend this offer to all Scottish Forces.

On 9 July 2007 Calum Lewis whilst driving alone on the A90 Stonehaven to Aberdeen road was involved in an accident and was fatally injured. Calum 29 years of age was a qualified Pharmacist being well respected in his profession.  He was a much loved only child and he is sadly missed by his parents, friends and associates. Monies collected by them together with monies from Calum’s estate are held by Diced Cap and will be primarily used to raise awareness of road safety and increase the education of young drivers.

As a fitting commemoration of Calum’s death and to pass the baton with suitable ceremony to Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary several Diced Cap Trustees will cycle from the scene of Calum’s accident just south of Aberdeen to Dumfries over 3 days.

9 July        -          Aberdeen to Perth    (77 miles)

10 July       -         Kinross to Edinburgh (45 miles)

11 July       -         Edinburgh to Dumfries via A701 (75 miles)
