About the Diced Cap Delta Challenge

The Diced Cap Enterprise in Education / Good Citizenship project having run successfully for two years and developed off into so many positive directions was crying our for a title encompassing the whole picture.    Diced Cap Delta Challenge conveys the parallel of a river delta reaching the sea the many branches portraying the constant flow of so many innovative ideas leading out into the sea of life, the future!

The Scottish Executive in implementing their Determined to Succeed (DtS) programme in 2003 sought to create a culture of enterprise in our schools encouraging students to have the 'Can Do' attitude being successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Diced Cap has delivered successfully on this causing quality senior students in academies in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire to focus on social enterprise raising monies for a wide spectrum of charities which Diced Cap has historically supported.

The Diced Cap Devils' Cauldron (October) gives the students the initial public speaking platform to define their chosen charity and outline their innovative but achievable business ideas for raising monies. Having executed their plans in whole or part they are afforded an opportunity at the high profile and emotive event The Diced Cap Good Samaritan Awards (February 08) to hand over cheques to their charities.

The Diced Cap 'Can Do' Conferences (June) 2006 and 2007 were successful in celebrating the students' successes and encouraging others to become involved. Having engaged a strong nucleus of academies it is intended in 2008 to replace the conference with Diced Cap 'Speed Networking' Event (Jan 08). Also in the planning is The Diced Cap R.A.Y.S. (Recognition of Achievement of Youth in Schools) Charity Awards Dinner(June 08) as an acknowledgement of the enterprise students' efforts and earning a deserved reward for their respective schools.

A further exciting development is the creation of THE DICED CAP FUTURES VAULT . Each company and each charity which is represented at the Devils Cauldron will be asked to post on our website at the VAULT details of any student placements and future career opportunities which they can offer the quality students engaging the Delta Challenge. A hyper link on the respective charity or company logo will take the student to the appropriate website where they can read specifics and establish contact details. It is hoped that a broad choice of placements / career opportunities will develop suitable for a wide spectrum of students. Once the VAULT is established all of Diced Cap's extensive network in the public, private and voluntary sectors will be offered to post on the site.

Whilst anyone will have access to the VAULT the enterprise students will be fully apprised and regularly updated giving them a great head start and affording them direct access to a pool of high quality future employers.
