Diced Cap Charitable Trust |
Diced Cap Events - Dice Day 06 Lord Provost John Reynolds honoured Diced Cap with a civic reception on 30 November 2006 at Aberdeen Townhouse in recognition of Diced Cap's work over the past several years in relation to diversity issues. The Diced Cap Good Samaritan Awards launched in 2003 have proved an efficient vehicle for Diced Cap to raise positive awareness of a number of sensitive diversity issues such as special needs, racial harmony, physical impairment and drug addiction / rehabilitation. Diced Cap seeks to encapsulate 'racial equality' into a 'combined diversity equality focus' hence the title of the event was D.I.C.E Day - Diversity Inclusion Community Engagement Day. St Machar Academy is the largest academy in Aberdeen with many students of different race / culture / origin / religions. It was recognised with a Diced Cap Good Samaritan Award in 2004 for the school's many successes in delivering racial harmony. Some 40 students from this most cosmopolitan school were invited to the reception along with several past winners of Good Samaritan Awards. There was also representation from Kemnay Academy currently engaged in a Diced Cap 'Enterprise in Education' programme raising monies for Downs Syndrome (Scotland) Grampian Branch Several long term corporate sponsors of Diced Cap who have been recognised with fellowships were in attendance to see Kelly Cumming being deservedly installed as a 'Diced Cap Ambassador' by Assistant Chief Constable John McNab. Kelly is a brave young woman who in 2003 had part of her right leg amputated to survive cancer. Since then she has been an inspiration to all who meet her helping council other potential amputees and she has continued to engage with Diced Cap at many showcase events. One of the 'fellows' Finnies The Jeweller has kindly commissioned the design and production of a special piece of silver work which was presented to Kelly. Several students from Kelly's former school Westhill Academy were also in attendance. The event was compered by Diced Cap Chairman Gordon Townson |
