Diced Cap Charitable Trust |
Tams Tribute Trek 2007 Grampian Police sadly lost one of its great characters who died of cancer aged 51 in February of this year. Constable Tom Murray affectionately known as 'Big Tam' was a gentle giant who was a devoted family man and an effective and well liked community officer. A great rugby player his stature intimidated many 2nd row opposition players and he was generally very keen on sport. He used his sporting abilities to great effect to raise monies for charities on several hill walks and on one occasion cycled the breadth of Scotland to raise monies for research into Autism a condition affecting one of his nephews. To mirror his cycling achievement Diced Cap organised a charity cycle on Monday 27 August 2007. Treasurer Chief Inspector Keith Henderson and Chairman Gordon Townson set off from Tom's home town of Laurencekirk and cycled up the coast visiting St Cyrus, Johnshaven, Inverbervie, Stonehaven and Portlethen. They arrived at Grampian Police Offices, to be received by Head of Community Partnerships Chief Superintendent Ian Paterson. Also waiting to greet them on bikes were Assistant Chief Constable Colin Menzies and Sergeant Vince Stuart who cycled a more arduous route from Tomintoul where Tom was well known and is fondly remembered, having for many years been the local officer.
